M1949 Sleeping Bag - FIELD & PERSONAL GEAR SECTION - U.S ...

The arctic bags in my collection are USMC contract and made in 1951. Both the "inner" and "outer" bags have the same nomenclature of BAG, SLEEPING, M-1949 ARCTIC. I own one USMC M-1949 "Mountain" bag, made in 1952, which was also marked as an "inner" bag so I assume that was a way of having one sleeping bag serve two purposes.

Most of the M1949 sleeping bags in my collection are Korean War dated and USMC contract and they have some collector value. As for it's effectiveness, I think they're a good sleeping bag. I used them in the Marine Reserve in the '60's and '70's and currently own a 1962 vintage "Mountain" bag which I've used on camping trips.
